According to youremailverifier, travelers to Liberia are advised to follow the news carefully and stay away from the visibly ill. Visits to the doctor and hospital in affected areas should be avoided whenever possible. It is recommended to take medication for malaria prophylaxis
Further information on Ebola infection is available at External Link, opens in new window www.diplo.de/reisemedizin.
Country-specific safety information
Even ten years after the end of the civil war, the security situation in Liberia is under control, thanks mainly to the UN peacekeeping force UNMIL, but it remains fragile. The presence of more than 50,000 Ivorian refugees in the border region continues to represent a high humanitarian burden and a potential additional security risk. Caution is therefore generally advised when traveling to Liberia.
Travel over land, infrastructure
Individual trips to the interior of the country should be reported to the German embassy in Monrovia or coordinated with them.
In the rainy season (around mid-May to mid-November) not all roads in the interior of the country are always passable. This applies in particular to the unpaved roads.
